Frequently Asked Questions

  • At the end of your visit, you receive a detailed superbill, which is an itemized receipt with all the codes your insurance company needs, along with your clinical note from that same day. You submit both to your insurance, and they reimburse you directly. Some patients prefer to use a third-party service like Reimbursify.com, which handles the submission for you; others prefer to do it themselves. Most patients with out-of-network benefits are reimbursed 50 to 80% of their visit costs. Our team is glad to help if you have questions about the process.

  • Payment is collected at the time of your visit by credit card, debit card, check, HSA, or FSA. We do not bill insurance for office visits, which is what allows us to spend more time with you and direct that time toward your care rather than paperwork.

  • Yes. Botox is FDA-approved for chronic migraine and is one of the treatments we offer in the office. Like other prescription medications, Botox is billed through your insurance. Most commercial plans cover Botox for patients who meet criteria, and the manufacturer's savings program can substantially reduce out-of-pocket costs for eligible patients. Our team handles the prior authorization and coordinates with your insurance and the pharmacy so the process is as smooth as possible..

  • Headache disorders are common, and primary care is often the right first stop. When headaches are frequent, severe, complex, or not responding to standard treatments, specialty care can change what is possible. At Pennsylvania Headache Center, headache and facial pain are all we treat. Dr. Peterlin has focused exclusively on headache clinical care and research since 2004, bringing both deep clinical experience and a clinician-scientist's perspective on emerging treatments.

  • Pennsylvania Headache Center is a non-narcotic practice. Opioids and barbiturates can worsen headache disorders over time and can make other headache treatments less effective. Research has shown that regular use of these medications more than doubles the risk of developing chronic headaches, and large studies have found that triptans outperform opioid medications for acute migraine treatment. We focus on preventive and acute treatments that address the underlying biology of headache, with strong evidence for both safety and effectiveness.

  • Yes, primarily for established patients as a convenient option for return visits. New patients are seen in person, with rare exceptions made on a case-by-case basis. Telehealth visits are available to patients located in Pennsylvania.

  • Yes. When imaging, blood work, or other diagnostic testing is needed, it is ordered through Pennsylvania Headache Center and billed by the imaging center or laboratory through your insurance, the same way it would be from any other physician's office. Our team coordinates the ordering and follow-up so you have a clear plan.

  • Our office is available by phone or email during business hours for questions, scheduling, and concerns that come up between visits. Because Pennsylvania Headache Center is a specialty practice without after-hours coverage, we ask that all patients maintain a relationship with a primary care physician or general neurologist for situations that arise outside of office hours. For prescription refills, please call our office; we will send the refill to your pharmacy, typically within the same week.
